Did I get a virus from opening a link to an email?

What exactly said threat detected? The website? If so, it's likely you have a small virus. It shouldn't cause huge problems, but it could get worse. I suggest entering safe mode on your PC (mash f8 on start-up) and scan for viruses. You will most likely find an infected cookie or something.
