My cat is Growling and hissing at me?

My cat is growling and hissing at me. He has never done this before. He is a really loving cat. Last night he got out of the litter box and screamed a very long loud meow. A really deep tone meow. He continued to do this and ran under the table and began hissing. He laid on his side and he would lift his leg like he was going to kick at something and kept lifting his leg like that. I don't think he was trying to attack I think he was in pain. He started licking and putting his face around his butt possibly his penis? This went on for maybe five minutes then he was back to being extremely loving. This morning he got out of the litter box walked over onto a dustpan and tried to use it as a bathroom. I stopped him and then he did his long meow ran into the hallway and began this cycle again. I had to leave to take my wife to work so once he stopped growling we left. I came home and he was way under the futon hiding. I pulled it out to see him and he let me pet him and came out. I went to get a drink from the kitchen and when i got back he was back under the futon again. I'm really worried something is really wrong. Please help. My cat is around 2yrs Black and White "tuxedo" If you need any other details let me know.
